Power Center
The Power Center is U-M’s most technically sophisticated performance space. A fully functioning theater, it also hosts sales meetings, product rollouts, and corporate presentations. The theater was made possible by a leadership gift from former regent Eugene Power and his wife Sadye, and their son Philip (also a onetime U-M regent). The building was designed by Kevin Roche and John Dinkeloo, former associates of legendary architect Eero Saarinen. The audience seating area is modeled after the Greek theater at Epidarus, while the stage was an experimental combination of proscenium arch and thrust. Seating approximately 1,350, no seat in the Power Center is more than 80 feet from the stage. The soaring lobby features tapestries by Roy Lichtenstein and Pablo Picasso.
