Nurturing Natives- Barn Owl

A barn owl sits against a snowy grey background

The barn owl, a nocturnal raptor, is strikingly haunting with its pale, moon-like face and wide eyes. These birds are native in Michigan, but actually inhabit every continent besides Antarctica. Because of their asymmetrical ears, silent flight, and sharp vision, they’re incredibly successful predators and are greatly favored by farm-owners to keep out pests— lending to their namesake. When out at night, make sure to keep an ear out for their distinctive shriek that distinguishes their calls from other owls!
