The Accolades Awards recognize outstanding student arts organizations for their artistic excellence & leadership within the University of Michigan’s vibrant arts community.

With over 250 student arts organizations across three campuses, the University of Michigan sustains one of the nation's most vibrant and creative student bodies. These groups produce innovative and award-winning work across disciplines, enriching the cultural and intellectual life of the institution.

Established in 2014, the Accolades Awards are presented by the U-M Arts Initiative.

Nominations Close: March 31

Online Voting: April 2–15

Winners Announced: April 22

  • Nominating: Student organizations can self-nominate in up to 4 categories per year. For each nomination, you should highlight the work you have done this past year in that category. You may also submit up to four photos and/or a video not to exceed 15 minutes.

    Voting: All complete submissions will be put to a public vote in mid-April.

    Winning: Winners in each category will receive $100 for their organization, plus other great prizes.

  • Theatre
    Recognizes student organizations that produce or create theatre.

    Musical Theatre
    Recognizes student organizations that produce musical theatre, including operas.

    Comedy or Improv
    Recognizes student organizations producing comedy or improv through live performances, recordings, or humor publications.

    Ensemble Dance
    Recognizes student organizations that create choreographed group dance performances.

    Instrumental Music
    Recognizes student organizations that create or perform instrumental or digital music.

    Vocal & A Cappella Music
    Recognizes student organizations that create or perform A Cappella, Choral, and other vocal music.

    Literary Arts
    Recognizes student organizations engaging in printed or spoken word, including publications, performances, and other creative literary formats.

    Publication Design
    Recognizes student organizations with exceptional publication design.

    • Submit examples of your best work such as page spreads or covers.

    Visual Arts
    Recognizes student organizations that have created an art exhibition, installation, or publication.

    Film & Video
    Recognizes student organizations that create or produce film or video.

    • Submit a video selection not exceeding ten minutes.

    Fashion
    Recognizes student organizations that curate, photograph, write about, or host fashion events.

    • Submit examples in the format that best represents your work.

    Alternative Performance
    Recognizes performing arts groups that don't fit in other categories, such as juggling, storytelling, magic, or aerial silk.

    Event Production
    Recognizes student organizations that have produced events or performances with outstanding scenic, costume, lighting, or sound design.

    Interdisciplinary Collaboration
    Recognizes student organizations that combine two or more artistic mediums or fields of study to create collaborative art.

    Cultural Arts Practice
    Recognizes student arts organizations practicing art forms tied to a specific culture or heritage.

    Community Arts Engagement
    Recognizes student arts organizations using the arts to benefit communities beyond the University of Michigan, including service, awareness, and socially conscious events.

    Lifting Voices Award
    Recognizes student arts organizations using the arts to give voice to underrepresented peoples and stories.

    Emerging Arts Organization
    Recognizes student arts organizations with outstanding work that have been active for less than two academic years.
