Bird-Friendly Window Mural by Suher Salim

A mural of birds, butterflies, and plants in a detailed pattern now covers the Weiser Hall skybridge.

Weiser Hall’s skybridge windows are now covered with a huge mural depicting birds, butterflies, plants, and a complex pattern. This illustration, created by UMich student Suher Salim was the winner of a campus-wide design competition to create a bird-friendly mural that would help to reduce collisions with the Weiser-North University Building skybridge. This mural is part of a broader effort through “Planet Blue” to reduce bird collisions and support biodiversity at the University of Michigan.

Salim said about her piece: “The inspiration for the design came from everyday nature I encountered while walking in Ann Arbor.” This mural is a beautifully designed reminder of the nature that is all around us every day, and incorporating it on the building reinforces the fact that humans are a part of nature, and live alongside animals like these birds.

Next time you walk past Weiser Hall, be sure to take a look up and view this transformative and beautiful art piece!
