A still shot of the marching band’s recent performance on the field in Michigan Stadium features members spelling out “250” in reference to America’s 250th anniversary.
On Saturday, September 12, 2026, the University of Michigan Marching Band performed “An American Montage”, a 12-minute halftime show performance! This set, honoring the 250th anniversary of the United States, was co-sponsored by the Arts Initiative and the Center for Democracy and Civic Empowerment at UMich.
The performance featured a wide range of songs, including traditional African American spirituals “Let Us Break Bread Together” and “Oh Freedom”, pop classics “This Land is Your Land” and “Born in the U.S.A.”, and songs from the musical Hamilton. The Hamilton songs were crowd favorites, as many fans in the student section were singing along word-for-word!
This halftime show was amazing to witness from the stands, as the range of music ignited the audience, and the formations wowed. You can watch and listen to an overhead view of the MMB’s “An American Montage” on YouTube.
