“68th Annual Best Concert Ever (Live)” by The Friars

The Friars are one of the 15+ student a cappella groups on the University of Michigan’s campus, and last weekend they released an album! The Friars 68th Annual Best Concert Ever (Live) Album features 14 songs. Performed by the group live in spring 2024, these recordings are now available online for streaming.
All songs on the album were arranged and performed by students in the group. The audio for the release was also mixed by students. Many songs are covers of popular songs, though some take creative liberties, like my favorite recording “Apple Bottom/Get Around”. This arrangement mixes 2007 Flo Rida hit “Low” with The Beach Boys 1964 song “I Get Around”. The way that aspects of the two very different songs are mixed together into one cohesive performance is very unique and was very entertaining to hear, as someone who loves both individual songs.
