Dancing in the Streets

It's not often you see dancing outdoors.

But the University of Michigan Flint came together for a Dancing in the Streets festival at Brush Park. The festival celebrated diverse dance and movement traditions from across generations, both in Flint and beyond.

The idea came from a local artist and two faculty members at the university. They say it's to appreciate how communal dance can light a path toward joy and resistance in a world that leaves more people feeling alone.

Saturday's event showcased everything from Javanese dance, to breakdancing to voguing. It ended in a headline performance from Flint pop duo "BFF" in collaboration with Lansing’s Institute of Dancers.
