“Lost Media” by Calleigh Bolde

Calleigh Bolde’s ceramic piece sits atop a pedestal as part of the Reverie exhibition at Stamps Gallery

On view now at the Stamps Gallery is an exhibition titled Reverie, curated by the the Stamps Student-led Exhibition Committee (SEC), featuring works by eight of its members, all students in the School of Art & Design. Among those works was this ceramic piece by Calleigh Bolde, titled Lost Media. This work mimics the crumpled look of a discarded newspaper with quotes from a range of notable people, including Anthony Bourdain, Dr. Seuss, Fleetwood Mac, and Vincent Van Gogh. The masthead for the imaginary newspaper bares the title “The Uncommon Times,” and the columns include a handful of images and headlines.

As noted in the wall placard for the exhibition, the word reverie is “a state between waking and dreaming, a moment wen the mind drifts away from the immediate. It is a space where memory, imagination, desire and reality can overlap, distort and take on new forms.” Like several other works in the exhibition, this piece explores that territory, taking the wistful nature of some of its quotes and the reassurances of others to reflect the ephemeral nature of this moment in one’s college career. “Where to next?” one headline reads, reflecting the question floating around in many college students’ heads as they explore the horizons ahead of them.

Reverie is on view through October 31, and the Stamps Gallery is located at 201 South Division Street in Ann Arbor.
