Happy go lucky teen years transitioned to several decades later after war and tragedy when they meet again.

One of the most popular WuXia fantasy stories that took international fame has to be the light novel series, Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, which details the surprising resurrection of Weiying, a previously powerful, feared cultivator of dark energy who could control the dead and accumulated many enemies during his time on earth. The story follows him as he struggles to make piece with his past and deal with the consequences of his previous life’s actions while reconciling with loved ones and enemies alike, including one person, Lan Wangji, with whom he’s had a tumultuous, complicated relationship with.

I love the song “Save Your Tears” by the Weeknd and hearing his duet version with Ariana Grande brought an intense level of melancholy and tragic beauty that made me start thinking of this story. I decided to storyboard how I would imagine the visuals of this story (largely based on the anime portrayal of the characters) would into the lyrics and overall tone. My goal is to turn this into an animatic (video version) that switches between each of the panels almost like a rough animation for maybe the first 2 min of the song. Hopefully I’d be able to make that happen over the summer. Wish me luck!
