“Weird Fishes”- a cover by Gimble A Cappella
Gimble A Cappella recently published their recording of “Weird Fishes”, originally performed by Radiohead. More specifically, Gimble’s arrangement is inspired by Lianne La Havas’ cover of the song. The arrangement really explores the idea of musical contrasts- like how the light and airy solo complements the rich and full bass line that brings you down to the depths of the ocean. Even without seeing the group physically performing the song, you can hear the passion and emotion through their voices.
My favorite part comes about halfway through the song, where the group sings unison rhythm and lyrics in layered harmonies. Then they cut out, and the vocal percussionist leads them into the climax of the song, where they split onto their different parts in an explosion of beautiful sound.
