DRAGON COVE OF MYTHS, LEGENDS, AND STORIES: Finalizing Book Art Pages🐶

Following back up on my progress with the Pages for Pediatrics book (Into the Spotlight) about Bailey, a young dog learning to embrace her vitiligo (uneven pigmentation of the skin or in this case fur) and find the courage to step onto the stage to pursue her passion for singing! After settling on a desired rough sketch from our second pass after an initial thumbnail sketch brainstorm, Sophia did the lineart (for consistent style among all pages and her expertise in dog anatomy). Once we agreed on the color blocking, it was time me to color these two pages for the final desired look.

The idea is for Bailey to energetically spring out from the left (I like my poses to be dynamic) with sheet music swirling around her as her singing/music and voice reaches other dogs who become empowered to celebrate their uniqueness. I wanted the final page to include dogs with all sorts of features, big dogs vs small dogs, those with disabilities, pitbulls and albino dogs. I love how bright and lively the background swirls are (fun to draw, and so were Bailey’s spots), and the overall goal was for this to be a whimsical and motivational ending note to the book :). The process of helping design the art of the book has really made me practice spatial organization, intentionality, and interactive elements in visual storytelling to convey a message and feeling.
