DRAGON COVE OF MYTHS, LEGENDS, AND STORIES: Character sketch #1🌸
DIgital sketches to flesh out appearance/lclothing. I’m trying to figure out a balance between baggy-ness and formfitting aspects of the costume. Bottom right shows her holding a staff, one of the items engineered to help her wield magic.
I’ve been writing a lot about other people’s characters, so here’s my own! Meet Irene, a human who possesses no inherent magic abilities but has forged a way to harness magic using specialized symbols and magic enhancer items! She lives in a world where people possessing magical abilities and those who don’t have lived separated by magical boundaries for 200 years and have only recently been reacquainted with one another, leading to high tensions and exciting yet dangerous prospects. She and her older brother are pioneers of magic wielding capabilities for non-magical people and currently participate under a program that trains promising youngsters towards magic professions in the interest of public safety and health, often involving disabling curses/hexes and rounding up pesky magical animals that have escaped the magical forest.
Irene is a pretty nerdy and resourceful person who loves testing unconventional ideas and upgrading her magic-wielding tools. She’s a risk taker and over-achiever which often gets her into tough situations with her higher-ups. Her parents are very distrustful of magic and disapproving of her and her brother’s choice to run from home to pursue it, as a result the siblings have a rather strained relationship with them and rely on each other for support, especially in an environment predominately made up of magic folk who disapprove of non-magical people and sees their development of non-mag magic wielding as a threat and appropriation of something solely belonging to mages. Her brother’s rather abrupt disappearance has a profound impact on her. which initially leads her to set off on her own to find him, culminating in a journey that will uncover much more than she bargained more.
I wanted to weave an element of her Chinese background into the design, with a chipao-inspired top. Still a little iffy on the hair, I wonder if the butterfly bow hair is a little much. Also debating giving her a small animal companion to help with her exploits.
I’m still revising a lot of aspects of the story, but I really hope that I can manifest it in its completed either in a book form, or an animatic series.
