DRAGON COVE OF MYTHS, LEGENDS, AND STORIES: Character Design Brainstorm☀️

Recently, I joined the design committee for Pages for Pediatrics, a club that creates picture books for bringing awareness to and representation for pediatric conditions. Our current project is developing a book starring a dog with different spots named Bailey, who represents people with vitiligo, a skin condition that causes areas of skin to lose color. Here are some of my early brainstorming and thumbnail sketches for excerpts of the story our writing committee put together!

I haven’t drawn dogs very much so I’m still figuring out proportions and poses. The idea is that Bailey initially feels embarrassed by her spots and wants to cover it up under baggy clothing, but over the course of the book, she learns to embrace them and fearlessly pursue her passions.

Next up will be storyboarding!
