To Kill Your Darlings

"To Kill Your Darlings" is an evening-length balletic dance theatre using the old literary advice of "killing your darlings" to explore the theme of self-reinvention regarding race and gender. As the character Roses she confronts poet Walt Whitman, Nostalgia, and her younger self the piece delves into the complexities of performing Black identity within traditionally White art forms like ballet and Euro-classical music.
