Morgan Nichol performs original song, “Open Book” at Black Welcome Week
On August 29th, student singer-songwriter Morgan Nichol performed her unreleased original song, “Open Book”, at the Trotter Multicultural Center. Her performance was a part of Black Welcome Week, which is an event that aims to provide a welcoming community for minority students at the start of the school year.
Nichol’s song has a smooth R&B sound that you can’t help but groove along to. She sings about being open to love after making the same mistake time and time again in the past. As she sings “‘Cause the pleasure’s all mine to leave it all behind”, she marks a new beginning for herself and the relationship at hand. Her inviting tone draws listeners in as she goes into the chorus with a hook that is guaranteed to be stuck in your head. Her stripped back performance conveys a sense of groundedness and relatability.
