Nurturing Natives- Rosy Maple Moth
Did you know this beautiful insect can be found throughout Michigan? The rosy maple moth prefers to live in temperate deciduous forests, but will also voyage into nearby suburban and urban areas. These tiny moths also only ever eat in their larval stage, and rely on nutrients from that stage to maintain their energy as adults! However, they tend to live around 2-9 months total with most of their adulthood dedicated to mating. They’ve adapted to camouflage to maple tree seedlings, so keep your eye out for these bright bugs and their larvae around the woody plant!
