Gift of Robert W. Browne (‘48 AB, ‘52 DDS, ‘59 MS), and commissioned as part of the renovation of Schembechler Hall and the Towsley Museum, at the entrance to which the statue stands. The larger-than-life-size figure depicts legendary University of Michigan football coach Bo Schembechler in an iconic sideline stance in his classic game day attire. On the wall behind the sculpture is inscribed his timeless quote, “Those Who Stay Will Be Champions.” Glenn E. “Bo” Schembechler (1929-2006) was the head football coach at Michigan from 1968-1989 and athletic director from 1988-1990. He was the winningest head football coach in U-M history. The artist J. Brett Grill, American born 1979, is an alumnus of the University of Michigan School of Art and Design, Class of 2001. His sculpture of President Gerald R. Ford stands in the National Statuary Hall in the Rotunda at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
