Doing the Dew
By Dana Budzaj
In the international video commercial contest presented by MOFILM, several University of Michigan graduates plugged into each other’s creativity to produce an original advertising work for Mountain Dew.
Marty Stano (Screen Arts & Culture ’08), Danny Mooney (Screen Arts & Culture ’08), and Kelly Gallagher (Art+Design ’10) submitted “The Pitch”, and won first place, plus the overall grand prize of $10,000 and a trip to Barcelona in the MOFILM Barcelona Video Competition.

Hundreds of teams entered the competition for the chance to represent nine famous brands, including: AT&T, Chevrolet, Tropicana, Young’s Seafood, Findus, Mountain Dew, the American Red Cross, Adobe and Motorola. Teams were judged on their originality and creativity paired with adherence to the assignment by a panel of brand representatives in their brand category.
Stanto and team filmed in Ann Arbor and produced the spot on a low budget through Stano’s production company, The Lazerbolt. The team traveled to Barcelona on February 14 for their big win at the first MOFLIM award ceremony of 2011.
