Attend at Home: Events + Exhibitions for the Week of June 28th

Many of the museums, galleries, and performance venues at the University of Michigan remain closed due to COVID-19 restrictions; however, there are still plenty of online events, exhibitions, performances, and films that you can experience from home. If you find yourself looking for something to do, enjoy the following selection of events and exhibitions in a safe and socially distant manner:

U-M SMTD: SUMMER “7 at 7” CARILLON CONCERT SERIES, DR. LINDA DZURIS

This weekly series takes place at 7 PM on Mondays from June 21 to August 9, featuring performers from Michigan and around the U.S. playing at either Burton or Lurie Tower. Dr. Linda Dzuris (BM ’92, MM ’93, DMA ’98), performs the first of the “7 at 7” Monday night carillon concerts at Burton Memorial Tower. Her program ranges from Argentine tango to Gershwin to pop hits from multiple decades.

U-M LIBRARY: MEET THE AUTHOR, JUSTICE AND FAITH – THE FRANK MURPHY STORY 

In this Meet the Author event, Author Greg Zipes discusses Frank Murphy, a Michigan Man who was unafraid to speak truth to power. Greg Zipes is an attorney and adjunct assistant professor in the School of Professional Studies at New York University. His book, Justice and Faith: The Frank Murphy Story, is the latest book published by the University of Michigan Press, Great Lakes division.

ANN ARBOR SUMMER FESTIVAL (A2SF) AND THE ARK CONCERT SERIES

Alongside A2SF’s virtual and in person events this summer, Ann Arbor Summer Festival (A2SF) and The Ark are pleased to announce a new partnership that will bring live outdoor concerts and exciting performances to Fuller Park in Ann Arbor. 

U-M HUMANITIES: DAISY CHAIN PREMIERE, MAPPING CONNECTIONS BETWEEN ARTISTS, THEIR IDEAS AND CREATIVE WORK 

Daisy Chain is a conceptual group exhibition in video format exploring the connections between artists, their ideas, and their creative work. For this Daisy Chain premiere, nine regional and national artists with diverse experiences, perspectives, and practices were each interviewed by Institute for the Humanities Curator Amanda Krugliak.

When: Wednesday, June 30, 12 p.m. EDT

RACKHAM GRADUATE SCHOOL: INCLUSIVE LEADERSHIP ROUNDTABLE

For this round table, the Rackham Graduate School has gathered a panel of faculty and staff who have experience using inclusive leadership in their fields. Join these distinguished panelists for a round table where you will learn to go beyond the theory and hear real life experience about using inclusive leadership in practice.

PENNY STAMPS SPEAKERS SERIES: ZANELE MUHOLI, BATHINI

A pho­tog­ra­pher and self-pro­claimed visual activist, Zanele Muholi explores black les­bian, gay, bisex­ual, trans­gen­der and inter­sex iden­ti­ties and pol­i­tics in con­tem­po­rary South Africa. This event is a recording from a previous lecture, and will be co-presented by UMS as part of their Digital Pride series.
