Many of the museums, galleries and performance venues at the University of Michigan are reopening while others remain closed due to COVID-19 restrictions. This week, enjoy the following selection of events, exhibitions, performances, and films—most remain virtual, while some can now be enjoyed safely in-person:

U-M PRESS GREAT LAKES MEET THE AUTHOR EVENT
Join U-M Press for a summer author event celebrating the treasure trove of folktales, legends and lore developed in Michigan! Sheryl James, author of “Michigan Legends: Folktales and Lore from the Great Lakes State” will discuss the stories of the legendary people, events, and places from Michigan’s real and imaginary past and how they are part of the state’s rich cultural heritage.

U-M STAMPS: STEPHANIE DINKINS ON LOVE & DATA
Stamps Gallery is proud to present the first survey of renowned transmedia artist Stephanie Dinkins, who creates platforms for dialogue about artificial intelligence as it intersects race, gender, aging, and our future histories. In this exhibition, Dinkins will debut new and interactive installations and workshops that build on her concept of Afro-now-ism.

WDET 101.9 FM: THE ARTIST NEXT DOOR @ DISTRICT DETROIT ART WALK FT. U-M RC LECTURER XIAO DONG WEI
WDET gives you the opportunity to meet “The Artist Next Door” artists and see their work in person. U-M Residential College lecturer Xiao Dong Wei was born in China and studied at the prestigious Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing from 11 to 21 years old. After relocating to metro Detroit, Xiao has been exposed to various types of music and culture, increasing her awareness of the Chinese culture from different angles and perspectives.

UMMA AND ARTS AT MICHIGAN: ARTSCAPADE 2021
Arts at Michigan and the U-M Museum of Art celebrate Welcome Week by introducing incoming students to the wide array of possibilities for arts participation on campus at an evening of art-making, live music, dance and poetry, games, and prizes. The event is free and open to all students.

UMS: YOU CAN DANCE — OUTSIDE! WITH CELIA BENVENUTTI
UMS is proud to announce the return of You Can Dance – Outside!, a free, outdoor dance workshop for all. In this workshop, Celia Benvenutti will lead a class on Katherine Dunham technique, a holistic form that unifies classical Ballet, modern, jazz, and traditional dance from the African Diaspora. Movers of all levels are welcome.
