Block M

Ann Arbor, MI

1953; Bronze; Artifact
Central Campus; Diag

The infamous Block M was a gift of the Class of 1953 to U-M president Harlan Hatcher. It was placed in May 1953 at the spot where the two diagonal walks cross and acts as the unofficial focal point for many on campus. It is cast of bronze and set in granite. Campus legend has it that if you step on the M you will flunk your first blue book exam, hence why many students diligently avoid trodding on the marker.
