The University of Michigan’s Lloyd Scholars for Writing and the Arts (LSWA) is a first- and second-year learning community open to students interested in writing and the arts, whatever their skill level or field of study. LSWA students live together, take classes together, and extend their learning outside of the classroom via clubs, interaction with visiting writers and artists, workshops, and events. Small classes and a strong student leadership program help each student become part of the community. LSWA is committed to embracing a diverse population of students from all backgrounds, and to helping students to develop personally, socially, and intellectually.

Whether they seek to improve their writing and/or arts skills, explore their creative pursuits with their peers, engage closely with faculty, or pursue leadership opportunities, LSWA students all value and share in a community where they are known, and from which they can explore all the University of Michigan has to offer
