What is your artistic expression here at the University of Michigan?
Drawing, and I was recently apart of the Michigan Gospel Chorale.
What do you like most about being in the Architecture curriculum?
I like that I can be creative and form new innovative ideas pertaining to Architecture and expressing myself in that way.
Have you always been into drawing?
Yes, ever since I was a little girl I have always had a passion for drawing.
Tell me a little more about the gospel chorale.
It was a good experience because the people in the chorale share the same beliefs as myself and I was able to worship in song, which I like doing.
How do you balance your education and extra-curricular activities at the University?
Well I am also involved in the AIAS, in which we participate in different events such as visiting construction sites, and developing portfolios with our drawings in them so we can get into the School of Architecture. I go to the various events to learn more about the field.
What type of things do you learn at these AIAS events?
We will get a basic idea of how things work on construction site, also we are informed about various aspects of architecture to be sure that its what we really want to do.
How do you use art when sketching a drawing?
I have Architecture 201 which is a free drawing class.
Explain.
In this class we learn different techniques on how to capture the integrity of lines, curves, and shapes. We also try other techniques of our own. We incorporate our natural abilities with the techniques our instructor teaches us. We learn how and why we draw the way we draw.
Why did you choose to come to the University of Michigan instead of going to an "Architecturally based" college?
I also had interests in other subjects such as medieval studies and by coming here I am able to explore my interests in more studies than just architecture. I also heard that the University has a very good architecture school.
What's your favorite quote?
"If you don't have a good sense of humor than you're better off dead."
