Pigskins on Parade
Arts at Michigan is proud to be a partner in the Pigskins on Parade project. We would like to highlight three U-M students that were involved in the creation of these footballs:
Art takes inspiration from many sources and locally, artists are taking inspiration from the Super Bowl to create a whimsical homage to America's favorite sport.
Pigskins on Parade combines public art with fundraising and testosterone with culture to enliven the streets of downtown Ann Arbor with giant, artist-enhanced, fiberglass footballs.
This eye-catching program is part of Ann Arbor's festivities as an official "Super City" for Super Bowl XL (February 5, 2006). Starting January 20, 2006, 5-foot tall footballs decorated by area artists and sponsored by local businesses and community groups will go on public display. The Pigskins will remain on view until July 2006. Their next destination? To be determined at a charity auction in June 2006, where the high bidder gets to take home the Pigskin of his or her choice. Auction proceeds will go to support the arts endowment of the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation.
Pigskins on Parade is an initiative of the Ann Arbor Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.
