Detroit Institute of Arts
On November 2nd 2008 from 4:00pm to 8:30pm the Minority Affairs Commission in collaboration with F.O.K.U.S and Arts at Michigan will be taking a trip down to the Detroit Institute of the Arts and going on a tour of their wonderful museum to explore, educate and be inspired by their classic and cutting edge collections. After we have visited the museum we will go to the Detroit Film theater to watch the documentary, "Trouble the Water." This film will feature stories of surviving victims of Hurricane Katrina and is intended to educate the general public of the conditions of New Orleans during and Post Hurricane Katrina. It was the winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.
"Incorporating remarkable video shot by Kimberly Roberts - an aspiring rap artist trapped in the devastated 9th Ward - Bowling for Columbine producers Lessin and Deal weave this insider's portrait with a stunning portrait of the disaster's aftermath. This is a redemptive tale of self-described street hustlers who become heroes - two unforgettable survivors who valiantly struggle to seize a chance for a new beginning." (Detroit Institute of The Arts).
A small $5 ticket price is all that's needed to participate in this wonderful event.
We will be leaving from in front of LSA Building at 4pm.
