The Joffrey Ballet Presents GISELLE

The Joffrey Ballet returns to the Detroit Opera House with a spectacular production of Giselle. Regarded as a masterpiece of traditional romantic ballet Giselle is a favorite among dance aficionados and novices alike.

First performed by the Paris Opera in 1841, ballet's most famous ghost story about love and redemption from the world beyond has been enchanting audiences for more than 175 years.

Now, experience the magic of the Joffrey Ballet as they present this immortal classic. This production will be staged by Company Ballet Master and Director of The Arpino Apprentices – Mark Goldweber. Goldweber has drawn inspiration from the great historical versions to create a Giselle that is traditional but stylistically in keeping with the Joffrey tradition.

Collaborating with Goldweber will be the famed ballerina Ms. Gelsey Kirkland - considered by many to be the finest Giselle of the late 20th Century, and legendary Ballet Russe dancer turned choreographer/director Mr. Frederic Franklin. This lavish production features sets and costumes designed in the English style by Peter Farmer, and Adolphe Adam's beautiful and haunting score will be brought to life by the Michigan Opera Theatre Orchestra.
