"Camille Claudel and Rodin: Fateful Encounter"
About this exhibition:

The DIA is the only U.S. venue for a stunning exhibition that brings two great artists together for the first time in America. Camille Claudel and Rodin: Fateful Encounter features over 130 masterworks by these two leading sculptors, considered artistic geniuses in their own time, and also emphasizes the fascinating personal and artistic relationships between them, represented with more than 50 related letters and photographs. Claudel met Rodin in 1882 when she was barely 18 and he was 42. He recognized her talent and hired her to help with his two major commissions: The Gates of Hell and The Burghers of Calais. She worked with him for over 10 years during which their relationship intensified, and the works from this period are eloquent testimony of their love and passion: Rodin's Éternel printemps, I Am Beautiful; and Claudel's Sakountala and The Waltz. Other masterpieces include: Claudel's Bust of Auguste Rodin, Clotho, and The Age of Maturity; Rodin's Bust of Camille Claudel, Galatea, and his life-size St. John the Baptist, and his monumental Balzac.

Includes a Special Screening of: Camille Claudel (following the viewing of the exhibit)
1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Watch the story of sculptor Camille Claudel and her chaotic relationship with August Rodin unfold on the big screen during special screenings of the 1988 feature film Camille Claudel. The film is directed by Bruno Nuytten, starring Isabelle Adjani and Gérard Depardieu as the legendary couple, and is presented in the DIA Lecture Hall in celebration of the current exhibition Fateful Encounter.
